SVCD

Developed by Royal Philips, JVC, Sony Corporation, and Panasonic as defined in the "Super Video Compact Disc Specification" first published in May 1999, and built upon the CD BridgeCompact Disc Bridge format. It is the culmination of multiple competing standards ("China Video Disc", "Video CD 2.0", "Super-Video CDs", and "Chao Ji Video CD") that each aimed to extend the original VCDVideo Compact Disc format, especially for the Chinese market. The IEC later published the specifications in the international standard IEC 62104 in July 2000. The SVCD format relies on MPEG-2 video compression, compared to the VCDVideo Compact Disc which used the MPEG-1 standard.
